As one of the SRM community’s best kept secrets to this point we are glad to finally reveal the existence of a little known mod in progress of the name; The Legend of the Blue Dragon. A tale of adventure and romance centred on a mysterious new companion named J’A, a stranger with horns, beautiful blue skin and serpentine eyes who finds himself in a time and a world he does not recognize.
This exciting project is being led and directed by user Kikiapplus, who became part of the SRM team when she joined to work on Forbidden Love. She created J’A two years ago as a personal character and did what any true Skyrim fanatic does: took tons of screenshots! When a friend asked if they could make him into a follower mod, she started writing his story and has been hard at work on the mod ever since.
The plot is currently being kept tightly under wraps but can be broken down into three major chapters. The player will spend the first chapter getting to know J’A, learning who and what he is, what he remembers of his world, and how he feels about his new predicament. The second chapter revolves around the Dragonborn DLC, bringing more depth to J’A and Miraak, and eventually spirals into the third chapter comprised of its own unique and engaging story.
The romance with J’A is a slow burn, developing naturally from companionship to friendship, and eventually into love. He is not the only romanceable character in the mod, however! Another character will be introduced later on and the Dragonborn will have to choose who they wish to pursue.
Choice is a major player in this mod. Legend of the Blue Dragon features a unique dialogue system where choice is important. What the Dragonborn says to J’A matters, and if he doesn’t like what is said to him, he might abruptly end the conversation. In some instances, choice can lead to unexpected outcomes, including ending the whole storyline early. This mod boasts a handful of endings, some good and some bad, requiring the player to carefully consider their interactions. Though unwilling to discuss any details due to spoilers, Kikiapplus did make one promise: “I enjoy giving and taking, and you are in for an emotional ride.”
This ride, however, would not be possible without her small but talented development team. Toaxue created the NPCs and inputs custom voices, Darxide is responsible for the scripting, with Lionhall and HonoredToon in charge of additional character dialogue. There is also the wonderful cast of voice actors that breathe life into a variety of new and established characters!
The team is aiming for a December 2020 release date but, in the meantime, the community can look forward to a custom-voice follower edition of J’A that will be released this December! It will include all the characters that will be encountered in the full version of the mod, but no quests or romance will have been implemented. There is no doubt that J’A will be a great companion to explore Skyrim with while the anticipation builds for his wonderful adventure!
